Step Into My Sessions: Pulling out some games from the “past”
I don’t know if this happens to you 🤷, but sometimes a game somehow slips to the back of the cabinet. Other games seem to pop in and push it to the back ➡️. But this week, Hanabi 🎆 popped back into my mind, and I dug it out – my lucky week!
I love collaborative games 🤝 with students of all ages, and Hanabi is a terrific choice from about 5th-6th grade onwards. It’s a fireworks-building card game 🎇, where you build fireworks together. Sound simple? Oh, I forgot to mention: you can see everyone’s cards but your own! Isn’t that a fun twist?!?! NO peeking 👀 – so a level of restraint is required…
Hanabi is all about communication 🗣️, as players give each other crucial information about what cards they are holding, so cards get played in the correct numerical order or discarded if no longer relevant. (It also helps to tell the truth 🤥, as some of my students quickly learned.)
Put the cards down in the correct order, and you are that much closer to winning 🏆. But… put down too many incorrect cards and BOOM 💥!! Sorry, the fuse isn’t very long... ⏳
Some students can manage a game like Hanabi with all the rules and restrictions. Other students may need some modifications along the way 🛠️ before they get totally up to speed 🚀.
If you want to explore ways to modify games so more of your students can participate in super games 🎯, check out my one-hour training 🕐, Playing Outside the Box . Take a peek 👀 and dive into more complicated games that your kids will LOVE ❤️! It’s watchable now through Nov 30th. 📆
Good luck!
